# MSW composition extraction methodology

## Sources
- **Procedia 2017** – `docs/waste_water/procedia_lagos_waste_composition_2017.md`, Table 1 (p. 143-148). Wet-weight composition of domestic waste in four Lagos LGAs and the Lagos metropolis mean.
- **AHK/LAWMA-Bolcon 2015** – reported in `docs/waste_water/ahk_lagos_waste_resource_mapping_2023.md`, Tables 15–18 / Figures 8–10. Top-10 material categories for overall municipal, residential and commercial waste in Lagos State.
- **Environ 2022** – `docs/waste_water/Environ-09-02-11.md`, Section 4.1 / Figure 3. National urban MSW composition estimate for open-burning analysis.

## Transformations
- Procedia wet-weight grams were converted to percentages per row. Nylon was added to `plastic_pct`.
- AHK/LAWMA data were re-aggregated into the requested columns; any share not explicitly assigned to food, paper, plastic or textile was placed in `other_pct` so each row sums to 100%.
- The Environ source only reports food+green, paper and textiles; the rest is captured in `other_pct`.

## Validation
- All rows were checked to sum to 100% within ±1%.

## Gaps
- No national MSW composition table was found in the BUR2 or NIR1 markdown conversions.
- City-level data for Kano, Onitsha and Port Harcourt were not available in the supplied documents.
